Former site of a Roman villa in the east of the town and an important medieval necropolis, the village was once formed around the castle which overlooked the valley.

Following the ravages of the plague, Châteauvert was said to be uninhabited in the 18th century and the dwellings have since been formed on estates and localities in typically Provençal bastides.

The old village school, rehabilitated into a town hall, the dovecote and the Church of the Transfiguration opposite it, represent the current village.

Chateauvert is built on 2 banks linked by the Vallon Sourn bridge - the Sombre valley.

Accessible by the RD 554, between Brignoles and Barjols, Châteauvert is only 25 minutes from the Brignoles motorway axis, by which, the airports of Nice and Marseille, as well as the Aix-en-Provence TGV station are at less than 1.3 hours by car.
